Pet Boarding Services

The staff at the Russell Animal Hospital is well-trained to provide your pet excellent care when you need boarding service.  We offer single day or extended boarding services. For your convenience, we can arrange for your pet to receive routine veterinary preventative health care while boarding.

We admit boarding pets to our facility Monday through Friday 7 am until 6 pm and Saturday 8 am until 1 pm. Our discharge time is Monday through Friday 10 am until 5:30 pm and Saturday 10 am until 12:30 pm.  Dogs that have boarded with us for more than 4 days will receive a complimentary bath before discharge. We are closed for admissions and discharges on Sundays and holidays. When we admit your pet, please allow time to complete our boarding agreement and boarding care sheet. Alternatively, you may complete these in advance to save time at the reception desk.

A vet tech comforting a boarding patient

Our dog boarding kennel has a variety of appropriately sized cages for the comfort of your dog. We have a limited number of extra large cages for giant breed dogs and advanced reservations are suggested.  We feed a high-quality pet food (Science Diet) twice a day or we can accommodate your pet’s individual dietary needs and feeding schedule.  During your pet’s stay with us, your dog will receive an outside walk three times each day in our private wooded yard.  We have a large supply of cage blankets for your dog’s comfort and should your dog need a toy we recommend that you bring a Kong.

Cats are housed in spacious cages in their own room apart from the dogs.  Our cat room is located centrally so that they receive frequent contact from our staff.  Cats are fed twice a day with a high quality pet food or we will accommodate your pet’s individual nutritional needs. Again, we have a large supply of soft cage blankets for your cat’s comfort.

Pet Boarding Requirements for a stay at the Russell Animal Hospital

To make your pet's stay with us happy and healthy we do have some requirements for their well-being:

  • A fecal parasite test is required within one year for dogs and cats. All pets should be free of external and internal parasites. Should your pet be found to have external or internal parasites we will treat as medically appropriate.
  • Dogs are required to have current vaccinations for distemper and parvo virus, bordetella (kennel cough), influenza, and rabies.
  • Cats are required to have current vaccinations for feline distemper and rabies.
  • A reliable contact person and a viable telephone number are required in case of an emergency.
  • If your pet needs medication while staying with us, the medication must be in the original container, with complete written instructions, and there is an additional medication administration fee.
  • We provide a high quality diet for your pet. If your pet has special dietary needs or should you wish to provide your own food, we request that you bring the amount needed for their stay with a few extra feedings in the event you need to extend your pet’s stay. The food should be packaged in individual serving sizes, with a label that has your pet’s name and the name of the food on it. Should your pet run out of its own food, we will dispense a similar diet or feed our house diet.
