Many pet health emergencies can be managed at the Russell Animal Hospital during regular business hours. If possible, it is advisable to call our animal hospital in advance of your arrival to allow us to prepare for your pet’s emergency treatment. There may be some particular cases or circumstances that would be best handled by VCA Capital Area Veterinary Emergency Service (CAVES). CAVES provides emergency care and is staffed 24 hours a days, 7 days a week.

If you have a critical emergency during regular office hours and CAVES is a closer destination, you are encouraged to use their services. If possible, call CAVES ahead of your arrival at 603-227-1199.

After our regular veterinary clinic hours, our telephone is forwarded to our answering service. The answering service will notify a staff veterinarian if you need to speak to a doctor about a medical problem involving one of our patients. However, if you have a pet health emergency that requires urgent, immediate veterinary care, you should call, or go directly to, the Capital Area Veterinary Emergency Service facility.
